Large Pond Installation Guidelines

General Guidelines

Delivery of Liner

A.  The materials will be delivered to the jobsite on a pallet or as a roll with protective Geotextile around  the product to help protect the liner during transport.  Visually inspect liner as much as possible.  Do not accept obviously damaged materials.

B.  In unloading and on the jobsite, the pallet or roll goods should be handled in a manner that does not cause damage to the liner.

C.  For unloading and jobsite handling, a front-end loader with forks or a forklift capable of
operating under jobsite conditions recommended.

D.  The liner should be stored in a dry area.  When possible the liner should be stored and covered to protect the liner from unnecessary UV rays.  The cover should be securely fastened to provide coverage and protection for both the top and sides
of the liner.

Field Installation Procedures

A.   During the unfolding of the liner it should be visually inspected.  Damage or suspect areas should be noted and Western Environmental Liner Co., should be notified immediately.  Liners that have been damaged in transit or in the manufacturing process will be repaired or replaced as quickly as possible at the supplier’s expense.

The trench around the pond area should be at least 18” to 24” deep

B.   The liner is folded in an accordion style.  Liner will need to be put at one end of the pond and then pulled out lengthwise and widthwise across the perimeter of the pond area.  As you are pulling liner out over the pond area, secure areas of the
pond with sandbags, etc. to help keep liner down.  Leave the liner loose fitting in the installation, do not pull tight.

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO INSTALL LINER ON A WINDY DAY!

C.  Starting at one end of the liner, put liner up and over into dug trench and backfill with dirt.  Backfill material should be placed in loose, but enough to keep liner into place until entire liner area has had some dirt placed into trench.  Go back and finish backfilling all dirt around perimeter of the lined area and compact.

D.  Care should be taken when backfilling all trenches to prevent any damage to the liner.

Filling the Pond

A.  Once you start filling the pond, keep a watch on the liner to make sure all areas are good and secure and not pulling out
of  the trenches.  Do not fill liner lined pond without watching periodically the progress of the pond filling up.
